Three days left of my vacation and I get saddled with a sore throat and runny nose
Can I sleep for 72 hours and then get a do-over
Since the tumblr app eats messages and it’ll be a week before I have computer access again, my response to askthegeneraless:
I got them at Books A Million. They should eventually be on thinkgeek/amazon, but apparently they aren’t yet. Try searching online for sentry turret series 3 :)
reliantrobin and I are going to Williamsburg for a week! And are apparently incapable of taking cute selfies lol.
Anyway, apologies in advance if I end up spamming you guys with fall stuff and/or food.
lol, I don’t know AGMGTW well enough to know who you are talking about, and all I can think of is the girl from the gamma forest? She gives Amy the leaf thing with River’s name? Who he comforted as she died and then he admitted he had no idea who the hell she was, which didn’t really have anything to do with soldiers. I actually can’t think of any instances where Eleven is particularly strong about soldiers or the military either way.
Ten was grumpy about soldiers too, but I guess the difference is I wouldn’t say Ten was grumpy about soldiers specifically so much as the military as a concept — like he complained about the use of guns and fighting and rah rah pacifism, but he was nice to (for example) the UNIT guy Ross in the Sontaran eps. He was wary of Jenny because she was ~born to fight~ or whatever but throughout the ep he warms to her and ends up teaching her ~there’s always another way~ and stuff. (Also, with Jenny, the point is expressly made that he’s being hypocritical because he’s been a soldier before.)
Twelve’s anti-soldier stuff is VERY strict — like, Journey Blue is sort of comparable to Jenny, I think, in that Jenny and Journey are both soldiers in some respect BUT they also both help him and prove to be kind, clever, etc. Granted Journey doesn’t have the advantage of being his weird clonedaughter, but that shouldn’t matter too much — Twelve rejects her explicitly because she’s a soldier, even though she’s a soldier fighting the Daleks of all things, I mean humanity vs the Daleks is the least morally complex battle imaginable lol. You’d think he’d at least want to take the opportunity to show Journey there are other ways to be/other things she could do/expand her horizons/etc, like with Jenny?
And in this ep Twelve refusing to comprehend that a soldier could teach math because surely soldiers aren’t smart enough to do that etc… Twelve’s hatred has been increasingly written more as a kind of caricature than any kind of actual moral objection to the military as an institution. Danny was a soldier so that’s bad, regardless of the fact that Danny isn’t a soldier anymore, they haven’t discussed anything so he has no idea what kind of reasons Danny has for not being a soldier anymore, why Danny became a soldier in the first place, Danny’s morals, etc etc…
Like there are many valid objections to have to the military and to specific military operations but the show isn’t getting that deep with it. And I don’t think the show will go that deep with it, so I think it’s just going to be a very surface-level “soldiers are bad ugh >(” that will turn, over the course of the season, into “soldiers build wells for those who need them soldiers are the best :)”. TBH I don’t really think they should’ve gone there at all, since there’s no way they’re gonna give it the kind of nuance or complexity the issue deserves.
lol do you guys remember Stepsister from Planet Weird
